The School/Hospital of Stomatology of Kunming Medical University operates under a unified management system with three names: the School of Stomatology of Kunming Medical University, the Affiliated Stomatological Hospital of Kunming Medical University, and Yunnan Provincial Stomatological Hospital. It serves as the center for dental education, scientific research, medical care, and preventive healthcare in Yunnan Province. Established in 1978 as the Department of Stomatology of Kunming Medical College, it began enrolling five-year undergraduate students in stomatology in the autumn of 1979, making it one of China's earlier institutions to cultivate undergraduate stomatology students.

After 47 years of development, the School has established a comprehensive educational structure covering five-year undergraduates, master's students, doctoral students, postdoctoral researchers, international students, and continuing education. It currently employs 636 teaching, medical, and administrative staff, including 72 with associate senior titles or above, 16 doctoral supervisors, 57 master's supervisors, 56 PhD holders, 202 master's degree holders, an

 Its talent pool includes one flexibly-introduced academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, one recipient of the Ministry of Education's New Century Excellent Talent award, one expert receiving special government allowance from the State Council, and 33 provincial-level talent award recipients. Stomatology is a national characteristic specialty and a national first-class undergraduate program. It began enrolling master's students in 1986, obtained the first-level discipline master's degree authorization in 2003, and secured the first-level discipline doctoral degree authorization and professional doctoral degree authorization in stomatology in 2021.
    As Yunnan Province's only public tertiary specialized stomatological hospital, it is equipped with 236 dental chairs and 38 patient beds. It has 14 clinical and technical departments, 6 specialized outpatient clinics, 1 digital dentistry center, and 6 directly affiliated outpatient departments, handling 568,600 outpatient visits in 2024. The hospital is the hosting unit for the Yunnan Stomatological Association, the Yunnan Medical Doctor Association Stomatology Branch, and the Yunnan Quality Control Center for Oral Disease Diagnosis and Treatment. It is also the examination base for the practical skills of the National Medical Licensing Examination (Stomatology Category) in Yunnan and the only training base for specialized stomatological nursing talent in the province. Selected in 2020 as the third batch of national standardized residency training bases, it is a member unit of the National Clinical Research Center for Oral Diseases.
    During the "14th Five-Year Plan" period (2021-2025), it cumulatively added 230 new research projects, including 18 National Natural Science Foundation projects, with research funding exceeding 52.685 million RMB. It won 3 third prizes for Yunnan Provincial Science and Technology Progress Award and 2 second prizes and 5 third prizes for Yunnan Provincial Scientific and Technological Achievement Award. In international exchanges, the School joined the International Dental Collaboration of the Mekong River Region (IDCMR) as a co-founder in 2004 and the Southeast Asian Association for Dental Education in 2013. It hosted several international academic conferences and signed cooperation agreements with renowned international institutions like the Faculty of Dentistry, University of Hong Kong, and Mahidol University. The hospital actively fulfills its social responsibilities through continuous charitable clinics and educational activities, steadily advancing towards its goal of becoming a high-level stomatological hospital that is first-class in Western China and influential in South and Southeast Asia.
